Beidh an t-ádh le daltaí amhránaíochta i mbliana mar go mbeidh rogha acu idir dhá mhúinteoir amhránaíochta den chéadscoth. Beidh Rita Gallaghaer ó Na Frosa, Co. Dhún na nGall, i mbun ceardlainne amhránaíochta i mBéarla agus beidh Treasa Ní Mhiolláin, as Árann Mór, Oileáin Árainn, Co. na Gaillimhe, i bhfeidhil ceardlainne amhránaíochta as Gaeilge ar an sean-nós.
RITA GALLAGHER
Na Frosa in iar-dheisceart chontae Dhún na nGall is áit dhúchais do Rita ach tá cónaí anois uirthi ag Na Crosbhealaí in oirthear an chontae agus tá baint mhór aici leis an amhránaíocht thraidisiúnta i mBéarla ó bhí sí sna ficheadaí luaithe. Bhuaigh sí Fleadh Cheoil Uile Éireann trí huair ó shin.
Ba mhór an onóir do Rita é nuair a bhronn TG4 Gradam Ceoil Amhránaí na Bliana uirthi sa bhliain 2017. Ar an scata mór amhránaithe a raibh tionchar ag a gcuid amhránaíochta uirthi áiríonn sí go hard Paddy Tunney a thug ‘Gealbhan na Cruaiche Goirme’ uirthi, tagairt dá háit dúchais ar ndóigh.
Originally from near Frosses in south-west Donegal, Rita Gallagher now lives in Crossroads in east Donegal, and has been involved in traditional singing in English since her early 20’s, going on to win the prestigious All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil competition three times.
Rita was honoured to be the 2017 recipient of Gradam Ceoil Amhránaí na Bliana from TG4. Among her many influences is the late Paddy Tunney, who called her “The Linnet of the Bluestacks”, a reference to the locality of her birth.
